Grand Opening for Cardiovascular Sonography Program at Concorde-Aurora

黑料社 hosted the grand opening for the Cardiovascular Sonography (CVS) Program at its Aurora campus, 111 N. Havana Street, on March 11, 2022. During a tour of the newly constructed lab and classroom spaces, visitors learned what it鈥檚 like to use imaging equipment, which helps physicians diagnose heart problems in patients, and saw a glimpse into the hands-on training offered at Concorde-Aurora. 

The accelerated Cardiovascular Sonography Program will help address the growing occupational need for diagnostic medical sonographers. CVS faculty answered questions about the program, including requirements and sonography material, to help students understand the critical role of a cardiovascular sonographer.

鈥淢ost people, unless they have a personal experience in cardiology, don鈥檛 know what an echocardiogram is or the importance of vascular ultrasound,鈥 said Karie Anderson, Cardiovascular Sonography Program Director at Concorde-Aurora. 鈥淓ducating people on what cardiovascular sonography is can help bring more attention to a very important piece of healthcare that the average person may not even know exists.鈥

According to the , an average of about 12,000 openings for medical sonographers and cardiovascular technologists and technicians are projected each year, as a result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force.

鈥淕etting new sonographers out in the field working will help ease the strain on clinics that may feel understaffed,鈥 said Anderson. 

The program began in November 2021, with two terms, consisting of 9 weeks and 3 days each, of online education studies. These students will practice hands-on training in April 2022 while a new group begins online coursework for the 8-term program.
